The new BMW X2 and iX2 are described as ‘sports activity coupes’ by the German brand. To reinforce this, the second-generation new BMW X2 and iX2 have even bolder and racy lines and a more coupe-like rear end.

A stylish rival to the new BMW X2 and iX2 is the Audi Q3 Sportback, the sporty alternative to the Audi Q3. The new BMW X2 and iX2 are open for ordering now at UK BMW dealers. First delivers are expected to begin in March 2024.
The new BMW X2 and iX2 is marked out by a distinctive coupe-like silhouette. This blends the raised and rugged underpinnings of a family SUV with the more svelte rear end of a traditional coupe.
For this second-generation new BMW X2 and iX2 range, the sportiness has been underlined further. The lines are crisper and the heavily-raked rear window now has a prominent spoiler that creates downforce. There are also flared wheelarches and muscular shoulders at the rear.
All new BMW X2 and iX2 in the UK will come in M Sport specification, which includes M-specific design features throughout. Stylish double-spike 19-inch M alloy wheels are standard too.
A standout feature of the new BMW X2 and iX2 is the almost hexagonal design of the prominent BMW kidney grille. This is available with optional illumination for a distinctive night-time appearance. High-tech LED headlights are standard.
The new BMW X2 and iX2 are very aerodynamically efficient, which will help with fuel economy and EV range. The slippery shape gives a Cd drag factor of just 0.27 for the new BMW X2 and an even better 0.25 for the new BMW iX2.
The new BMW X2 and iX2 range is available in a range of nine different paint finishes. Two of them are matt-finish ‘Frozen’ finishes from the BMW Individual line-up. There are plenty more configuration choices from the BMW Individual range, from those who are willing to pay for it.
Inside, the centrepiece of the new BMW X2 and iX2 is the standard BMW Curved Display. This is formed from a 10.25-inch information display and a central 10.7-inch touchscreen control display. Both screens merge into a single unit behind a continuous glass surface that curves towards the driver.
The new BMW X2 and iX2 uses the BMW Operating System 9 platform. This is a very comprehensive system that includes BMW Digital Premium – a range of apps for music streaming, video streaming and even in-car gaming, all on a subscription basis. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
The new BMW X2 and iX2 range has features first seen in the range-topping BMW iX. The instrument panel is ultra-thin, and the frameless screens have a high-tech appearance. There is also a ‘floating’ central armrest between the front seats, which contains embedded buttons and a new design of gear selector.
Comfortable, hip-hugging M Sport seats feature in the new BMW X2 and iX2, trimmed in Veganza and Alcantara upholstery with blue contrast stitching. Other standard features include an M leather steering wheel, dual-zone climate control and Park Assist which includes a reversing camera. A panoramic glass roof is optional.
The new BMW X2 and iX2 is notably larger than the previous version. It is 194mm longer, now measuring 4554mm long. It is 21mm wider and 64mm taller. A longer wheelbase gives more interior space, with 25mm more rear kneeroom, while the boot grows by 90 litres, now measuring up to 560 litres.
The new BMW X2 comes with a choice of two petrol engines. The new BMW X2 sDrive20i has a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo engine that produces 170ps. It has 48V mild hybrid technology, with a powerful electric motor giving a useful boost in pulling power under acceleration. It also extends the engine stop-start range.
The new BMW X2 sDrive20i has a front-wheel drive setup, with a seven-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox. 0-62mph performance takes 8.3 seconds and it will average up to 47.1mpg. CO2 emissions start from 139g/km.
The alternative new BMW X2 is the high-performance M35i xDrive. This uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine that produces 300ps. 0-62mph takes 5.4 seconds and it averages up to 36.7mpg, with CO2 emissions from 175g/km. Grippy all-wheel drive is standard.
The electric new BMW iX2 comes in a single xDrive30 setup, with an electric motor that produces 313ps. Performance is impressive, with 0-62mph taking 5.6 seconds, aided by all-wheel drive traction.
The new BMW iX2’s 64.7kWh battery gives an electric range of up to 266 miles. Using 130kW DC rapid charging, it can top up from 10% to 80% in 29 minutes.
As a practical SUV, the new BMW X2 can tow up to 1800kg. The new BMW iX2 can tow loads of up to 1200kg.
The new BMW X2 and iX2 has a sophisticated suspension setup that includes Adaptive M suspension with ingenious frequency-selective damping as standard. Sport steering also forms part of the adaptive M suspension package, which is 15mm lower than standard.
The new BMW x2 M35i xDrive has a more focused suspension setup with 20-inch M light alloy wheels as standard – and 21-inch wheels available as an option. All new BMW X2 and iX2 have four-piston M Sport brakes, while the M35i xDrive has optional M Compound brakes with large 385mm front discs.
The Audi Q3 Sportback is a svelte coupe-style alternative to the regular Audi Q3 – in the same way a BMW X2 is a sportier version of the BMW X1. It has a range of powerful yet fuel-efficient petrol and diesel engines, and even a high-performance Audi RS Q3. This second-generation version was introduced in 2018 and there is now a tempting selection of used Audi Q3 for sale.
